I wrote the lyrics during the low point of the pandemic. It’s simply about being stuck. About how life was frozen. We were all in a collective rut.
The original recording wasn’t super (it was real slow) but I still liked the lyrics enough to keep them around when I reworked it with my new fondness for Open D tuning. It’s not a very complex song and I don’t really even know what chords I am playing as I think they are all just variations of some form of D.
Stylistically it’s a departure from how I normally play but it’s kinda grown on me over the last few days. In hindsight, I wish I started the song with the same energy I had at the end. Chris Lenker described it as “chipper” which is funny to me.
Tuning: Open D, capo 2
Lyrics:
To be honest, I haven’t gotten very far
This place is like quicksand, baby
It’ll take a hold of you and let you down
I took a picture to remind myself
That I’m stuck in emotion
Just to save a moment in time
In Time
As the world goes by
As the world goes by
As the world goes by
I remain a still life
Still, life
Still, life
Still, life
Where I am is where I am
And this is where I’ll always be
Everything that leaves comes back to here
These images stay frozen in my mind
I never grow old again, never grow old again
Time is just a point of view between me and you
With me and you
As the world goes by
As the world goes by
As the world goes by
I remain a still life
Still, life
Still, life
Still, life
